Short story:

Parsley (Petroselinum) is a genus belonging to the order Apiales, which belongs to the family Apiaceae. It contains bushy herbs and spices that grow to a height of 60 cm. It is also often called turnip.
There are two basic types: the root parsley and the leaf parsley, the latter also has two versions: the ruffled parsley, the version being the fluffy parsley. Three varieties are considered by some to be separate species, while others consider three varieties of the same species, Petroselinum crispum. Originally native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean, it is now widespread throughout the world.
The popular name of some other plants also includes the word parsley, so coriander is also called Chinese parsley or gypsy parsley, and turmeric is also called sweet parsley.
