Chestnut or medicinal chestnut (Levisticum officinale) is a perennial spice and herb belonging to the celery family. Other popular names: lecsihan, leustyan, soup strip, soup, soup pumpkin, loess. Its stocks can be found in the Mátra.

It grows up to 2 meters high. In the first year it develops only the rootstock and the leaf rose, in the second year the stem and scattered leaves appear. Its leaves are stalked, soaring unparalleled, the undersides twice, upwards only once. Its inflorescence is a complex umbrella, its flowers are yellow, it blooms in June-July. Its fruit is yellowish brown; twin sections with three protruding ribs
